So I thought for my first ever blog post I'd just summarize what this blog is going to be for, what my meteorology related hopes/goals are for the year 2010, and what meteorology and storm chasing mean to me on a personal level.
On this blog, I will be posting my Storm Chasing adventures and my meteoroligical findings/experiences in each. Also if there is any interesting severe weather news, I will be posting that and reflecting on it. This blog is as much for sharing my experiences and reflecting on them as it is for personal growth and learning. I hope that in sharing what I have learned and experienced (which isn't much thus far) I can maybe help somebody else in the pursuit of their dreams and at the same time help myself achieve mine.
The year 2010 is going to be my biggest one yet. Not only will I be taking my ACT's, applying for college, and applying for my first ever "real" job, but I will also be diving head first into my first year of meteorology and storm chasing, searching for opportunities to help me succeed in the future and in the present. I am "coming out of my shell", attempting to put myself in the spotlight in a search to learn more and expand my horizons. Due to the fact that I have parents who are willing to run with me every step of the way, I am able to push harder than I would be able to otherwise. This year I already plan on attending the National Chaser Convention, going on a Storm Chasing Tour with Silver Lining Tours, chasing on a personal level throughout Colorado and other states (as far as I feel comfortable and as far as my parents feel comfortable with letting me go), as well as possibly joining more experienced individuals on a couple chases. This year will have to be one of extreme personal growth and maturation past what I have achieved this school year, and I believe I am up to the task.
I thought I'd vaguely touch on what chasing means to me on a personal, deeper level in order to reinforce that this isn't simply a thrill-seeking hobby for me. Meteorology is a future for me, a knowing that if I try hard enough I can succeed. It is my passion, the center of every single hope and dream I have for my future. I have always been a person who likes to take curiosity into the real-deal, up in person experience, and that is what storm chasing does for me. It takes everything I have learned through my obsessive studying of meteorology and severe weather and puts it in true perspective. Although I haven't had much opportunity to truly do this yet, it is what I plan on doing throughout the spring/summer of 2010. I have a bizarre passion for meteorology and chasing that I haven't felt for anything before and I know that if I use this passion to learn and progress further into the field I can have great success.
Well that probably went on longer than I meant to for my first post, but I hope it helps whoever is reading my blog to better understand what meteorology means to me, and what my goals for this blog are.
